About Us

Two dreamers who like the taste of salt, the wind in their hair, sailing on Dutch waters and sharing it with others.

Our Story

Hello everyone, it's us, the Zuid Holland crew. Captain Tossing and Sailor Nikkie. In early 2022, we happily bought this beautiful ship. When our paths crossed in 2017, Tossing was sailing on the Zuid Holland for his second year as captain. Prior to that, he had spent more than six years as a sailor on other ships. Nikkie started sailing in 2018 and since 2019 these two dreamers have been sailing together.

Henk, the previous owner of Zuid Holland, guided and taught us in the following years and we are very grateful to him for entrusting us to take care of the ship, that we can call now our home.

We decided to sail together because we share a love for each other and a passion for this lifestyle. Our idea is to create a place where people feel comfortable and they can experience a sense of freedom, connection, peace, but also to taste adventure and simply enjoy being. We also love to share this moments on board and create new memories with those who join us. We much enjoy guiding our guests and showing our authentic way of traditional sailing.

Captain Tossing

Born in the Netherlands and raised on an island Terschelling.

"Always close by the sea, it is where I am at home! Being underway and under sail is where i feel the most happy."

Sailor Nikkie

Born and raised in the Czechie, with an explorer heart. Loving the nature, the wind and the Sea.

Found her place with sailing on this ship, being free and sharing it with others.

The ship

Zuid Holland is a traditional Dutch ship. She was built in 1896 in the province of Zuid Holland as a single-masted ship without an engine. She was used as a cargo ship for transporting sand, gravel or sugar beet. Her functions changed over time and Zuid Holland was modified to be suitable for sailing with guests.

Thanks to regular maintenance and the great condition of this beauty, it is still possible to enjoy the feeling of a traditional way of sailing and staying on board! Today the ship has an engine, but she and the surrounding nature prefer to raise the sails.

The length of the boat is 29,5 m, 6 m in width and offers enough of space for a nice pleasant stay. Below deck you can find a kitchen, lounge, two toilets and two showers. The nine cabins have in total 24 beds.

Most often we sail from the port of Harlingen and venture to the islands of the Wadden Sea, to sweetwater ports of Lake Ijselmeer and we can also sail on the many Dutch canals.
